A ‘New City’ for ice cream lovers in Arlington
Summer may be coming to its end, but not before Arlington residents get to cheer the season off at a brand new ice cream shop in town. New City Microcreamery, a Massachusetts-based company, is opening its new location at 311 Broadway and plans to serve local customers by the end of August.
The award winning ice cream maker has current locations in Hudson (its primary location which opened in 2015), Cambridge and Somerville. The Arlington locations plans to offer 30 rotating and unique flavors, made from scratch in the company’s Shirley-production facility. The shop also plans to offer signature sundaes and milkshakes. The company’s current menu of flavors is available here >>
“Jason [co-founder of New City Microcreamery] and I grew up in a neighborhood not far from Arlington Center (Belmont), and we frequented this beautiful downtown for dining and shopping, so it feels like we are coming full circle, now being able to offer our ice cream where we once enjoyed a scoop and a stroll as kids,” said Michael Kasseris, co-founder of New City Microcreamery. “We can’t wait to share our passion with the community—from our Baklava ice cream to our Best of Boston–winning Dubai Chocolate.”
New City Microcreamery prides itself on its nitrogen freezing production process; once the ice cream base has steeped in its flavor for a full 24 hours, the base is mixed and slowly introduced to the liquid nitrogen, which is more than negative 300 degrees, according to the company website. The whole process produces an ice cream with a light texture and mouthfeel.
YourArlington has inquired about the specific opening date. According to a recent press release, “inside scoops” and further information about the new location will be posted to the creamery’s Instagram page.
Formerly, the 311 Broadway location was home to Abott’s Frozen Custard.
